The spiritual dimension in the work with sacred plants - April 2018
Interview with Veronika Kavenská during the Congress Sacred Plants in the Americas, February 2018. In traditional Amazonian medicine the spiritual dimension is considered as real as the material world or the internal psychological world. The healers take advantage of the contact with the spiritual world for a deeper understanding of the patient's problems and to search for possible tools of healing. The spiritual dimension is not separated from the treatment of psychological or physical problems, instead these are linked and related. Evaluating the efficacy of Traditional Amazonian Medicine in relieving depression and anxiety - April 2018
Cécile Giovannetti is one of many health professionals who for the last 25 years have been interested in the work of the Takiwasi Center to develop their research.
Cécile's project is complementary to the Ayahuasca Treatment Outcome Project - ATOP Perú and aims to evaluate the efficacy of Traditional Amazonian Medicine, Ayahuasca and psychotherapy, in relieving depression and anxiety in patients undergoing the residential addiction treatment. This study is part of her Master's thesis in Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine, Charité University, Berlin, Germany.

Curandero - February 2018
New documentary project by Ricardo D'Aguiar and Valentina Homem about the therapeutic practices of the Takiwasi Center. In the Amazon, some plant species are considered teachers and sentient beings. An entire medicinal practice arose around them and has been used for millennia. Its effectiveness is being carefully studied by Western scientists. The documentary looks more closely at how these two systems converge and interact to produce something new.

Harvest of medicinal plants - 2018
Born as a strategic project to combine the conservation of the environment and the inclusive development of the indigenous communities, the Takiwasi Laboratory is now the productive unit of the Center, dedicated to Biotrade and the generation of added value in the sustainable use of Amazonian biodiversity resources. In order to produce high quality natural products, inspired by the ancestral knowledge of Traditional Amazonian Medicine, Takiwasi Laboratory works with families of agroforestry producers, in indigenous and mestizo communities, training them in the sustainable management of forest resources and guaranteeing a fair price for the harvest and care of medicinal plants, with a focus on the promotion of the women’s role. Through this strategy, Takiwasi also promotes the valorization and conservation of the Amazonian rainforest and ensures that the native communities gain control over their ancestral knowledge related to the use of medicinal plants. A close alliance has been developed with the association of medicinal plant producers "Ampik Sacha". One of the results of this work is the line of Amazonian infusions Sumak. Ayahuasca and Addiction Treatment in the "Singing House" - December 2017
Presentation by David O’Shaughnessy based on his doctoral research at the Takiwasi Centre in Peru from 2014-2015. In an attempt to understand the evolution of patients undergoing treatment for addiction at Takiwasi, he conducted an observational pilot study using methods drawn from biology, psychology, and anthropology. While the results were positive, understanding Takiwasi itself poses certain philosophical challenges that are not easily solved. In addition to the results of the study, David discusses these challenges in relation to the use of ayahuasca (and other plants) as medicines. Content was recorded at the 2017 EGA Psychedelic Symposium in Melbourne, Australia.

Interpreter: Susana Bustos, Ph.D. Over the last years, ayahuasca has come to represent the probably most widely-used substance in the context of the search for meaning and the mental health context on a global scale. This exponentially rising usage has so far mainly drawn on currents from the new-age movement, rather than on concepts from the scientific paradigm or from Judeo-Christian spiritual or religious traditions. Yet, some features of the new-age movement are in stark contrast to the traditional medicines paradigm, as well as to the indigenous groups this medicine originally stems from. Abrete Corazón - August 2017
Ikaro "Abrete Corazón" by Rosa Giove played by the french musical group Orâma. Abrete Corazón is a healing song (ikaro) used in the traditional Amazonian medicine rituals at the Takiwasi Center. Ayahuasca, rituality and interpretation - April 2017
At the Takiwasi Center ayahuasca is used always as part of a process and is ingested in a ritual setting. What is defended is not ayahuasca, but a certain ritualized use of this plant. Rituals are part of the life of the human being since he began to look for a way to give meaning to life and death, and serve to formalize and mark stages in the growth of the human being. The symbolic function of ritual in the framework of the ayahuasca session help to give it a meaning on different levels: at the physical level, that of the ordinary life, and at the spiritual level.
