Theoretical-Experiential Training Seminar in the Takiwasi Therapeutic Model

September 28 to October 10, 2026, in Tarapoto, Peru

The training program in Spanish is composed of resources from Amazonian Traditional Medicine and workshops aimed at fostering personal experience. In addition, the program is enriched with theoretical seminars and the transmission of some of the resources from our Therapeutic Model, providing a balanced and nourishing experience on different levels.

Objectives

- To learn about an innovative therapeutic community model.
- To understand the integration between master plants and psychotherapy.
- To personally experience Amazonian medicinal plants.
- To receive the transmission of certain therapeutic resources for integration into private clinical/therapeutic practices.

Rationale

We are pleased to present the 5th edition of the training in the Takiwasi Therapeutic Model, after two years of waiting. The interest and continuous requests from therapists wishing to learn about our model motivate us to continue fostering these learning spaces within a safe, therapeutic, and effective context.

Takiwasi continues to grow and renew itself: we have taken on new challenges. Over the last two years, we have confirmed that the Therapeutic Model allows us to work with highly diverse populations from different backgrounds and realities, including Indigenous people from Ecuador, North American war veterans, individuals with psycho-emotional difficulties, people searching for meaning in life and seeking existential and spiritual answers, as well as women and men struggling with addiction—the latter being at the heart and origin of Takiwasi.

The purpose of organizing this training seminar in our therapeutic model responds to the need to share the advances made in the development of the model itself. Including and integrating the spiritual dimension into the healing process has proven not only to be highly important for people’s health and life projects, but also essential in order not to overlook this perspective. Likewise, we wish to emphasize the importance of discernment and articulation between the psychological and spiritual dimensions. In times when holistic ceremonies influenced by New Age currents are proliferating, the psychological and spiritual often become blurred and confused, complicating and deepening the very issues people initially sought to resolve. Discernment, as well as knowledge and understanding of how these dimensions function, is essential, and each dimension requires its own appropriate approach. Equally important is our hope that what is transmitted during this training seminar may be integrated into participants’ personal lives and contribute to enriching and improving their professional and clinical practice with their clients or patients.

In addition to the above, we continue to point out the growing risks and negative consequences evidenced clinically as a result of a major “campaign” promoting the use of entheogens and psychedelics for addressing and resolving mental health problems. In many cases, these substances are prescribed in a generalized, careless, relativized, decontextualized, and “desacralized” manner. Furthermore, there has been a proliferation of facilitator training programs disconnected from any authentic tradition or led by individuals outside a professional training context. The negative effects are evident and noticeable at various levels of the person. Consultations addressed to our Therapeutic Team regarding these issues have become an everyday occurrence, and far from decreasing, the demand for care at Takiwasi continues to grow.

We wish to continue sharing this knowledge. May this experience be beneficial.

Seminar Format

The Training Seminar proposes work from two complementary approaches. The first consists of professional learning within the Takiwasi Model through a theoretical approach involving lectures, talks, workshops, and integration dynamics related to the experiences. The second consists of a deeply experiential process contributing to the personal development of each participant through the use of medicinal plants within a ritualized and controlled context, including participation in plant intake sessions: purgative-emetic plants, ayahuasca ceremonies, and a retreat/diet involving master plants.
