Dear friends,
We are writing to you with a heavy heart to share the news of an unfortunate event that occurred at Takiwasi. Last Wednesday, April 9th, an exceptional storm hit the city of Tarapoto, causing significant damage to our headquarters.
Unexpectedly, a large tree broke, falling on the maloca located near the patient residence, completely destroying this fundamental space in the therapeutic process of our patients undergoing substance abuse treatment.
This maloca was not simply a building: it was a key community space where deeply meaningful activities took place, such as the ingestion of purgative plants, group workshops for resident patients, and farewell lunches for those who successfully complete their recovery process, among other convivial activities.
Today, we face the challenge of rebuilding this important space. We have decided to rebuild the maloca respecting its traditional style: with a palm-leaf roof, a wooden structure, brick-based walls, and a cement floor.
The estimated cost of this reconstruction is S/. 60,000 soles (approximately $16,500 USD).
Therefore, we are asking for your financial support, friends and supporters of the work we do at Takiwasi. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us achieve this goal and continue to offer a respectable and welcoming space for the healing process of many people.
How can you help?
By rebuilding this maloca, we will bring back to life a space of healing and hope. With your help, we can achieve this.
With gratitude,
The Takiwasi Team
