On June 1st, a Conservation Agreement was signed between the Takiwasi Center, the Regional Environmental Authority of the Regional Government of San Martín, and the Management of the Cordillera Escalera Regional Conservation Area.
This new agreement strengthens Takiwasi’s commitment to protecting more than 50 hectares of Amazon rainforest located in the upper Shilcayo River basin, within the Cordillera Escalera Regional Conservation Area, where our therapeutic retreats with medicinal plants take place. Through this partnership, we will promote conservation initiatives, scientific research, ecological restoration, participatory monitoring, and environmental education.
For more than three decades, Takiwasi has integrated human health with the care of nature, recognizing that people’s well-being is deeply connected to the health of ecosystems.
We would especially like to thank César Bardalez, Head of the Cordillera Escalera Regional Conservation Area, for his support and continuous guidance in building together a participatory and sustainable management model for this natural area, for the benefit of biodiversity, water sources, and local communities throughout the region.
