In response to a growing need, we are offering a Therapeutic Seminar for Women with Addiction Problems, an intensive one-month program that integrates psychotherapeutic support with the ritualized use of medicinal plants from the Peruvian Amazonian tradition.

Throughout this process, participants will engage in deep physical, emotional, and spiritual detoxification in a safe, respectful environment, with close guidance and support from our therapeutic team.

Our Research Manager, Matteo Politi, was invited by Jason Grechanik to join the Universe Within Podcast to discuss his professional background and the research he conducts at the Takiwasi Center.

During the interview, they explored a wide range of topics, including the pharmaceutical industry, phytochemistry, phytotherapy, Indigenous Amazonian medicinal practices, and the importance of integrating different knowledge systems to better understand the relationship between medicinal plants and human well-being.

The conversation highlights the interdisciplinary approach that defines Takiwasi's work, where scientific research engages in dialogue with Amazonian traditional knowledge to foster a more holistic understanding of health, biodiversity, and the therapeutic potential of medicinal plants.

Over the past few weeks, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from prestigious international universities who were interested in learning more about our work.

We hosted four engineering students from AgroParisTech (Paris, France), who are conducting research on biopiracy and the role that the Takiwasi Laboratory, together with its partner organizations, plays in protecting the traditional knowledge associated with Amazonian biodiversity.

We also welcomed three medical students from Keio University (Tokyo, Japan), who visited Takiwasi to gain firsthand insight into our therapeutic model for mental health treatment, with a particular interest in the resources and practices of Amazonian traditional medicine.

In the Wampís Nation, women are the primary guardians of the Amazon rainforest and are currently leading the cultivation of naam, a nutritious nut traditionally eaten roasted and valued for its high content of healthy fats. Naam has long been a staple food of the Wampís people, although in recent decades it has been gradually displaced by changing dietary habits.

Today, Wampís women are promoting its reintroduction into the family diet, particularly in the nutrition of children, as a way to help combat malnutrition. Through their relationship with Nunkui, Mother Earth, Wampís women demonstrate that economic and community strengthening is rooted in deep respect for their cultural heritage and ancestral knowledge.
