Víctor Lucia Sánchez is a psychologist, PhD in Social Anthropology, and psychotherapist specializing in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), humanistic psychotherapy, and transpersonal psychotherapy. For more than fifteen years, he has accompanied processes involving master plants and the integration of experiences lived in expanded states of consciousness.

In this book, published in Spanish, he shares a journey that brings together two sources of wisdom that, at first glance, may seem far apart: biblical symbolism and the master plants of the Amazon. For many, these worlds might appear to be opposites. Yet experience shows that beneath the surface of their differences lie profound resonances, like two rivers that spring from different sources but eventually meet in the same sea.

This work is the fruit of a personal quest, in which the biblical Scriptures and traditional Amazonian medicine have entered into dialogue as two distinct languages that nevertheless point toward the same Truth. It is not an academic treatise, but an invitation to reconnect with our cultural and historical roots and to allow ourselves to be transformed by a grace that always acts in unexpected ways.

The GASS Association and Takiwasi Center are organizing the 4th Conference on Dialogues Between Medicines: “Spiritual Illnesses, Traditional Medicines and Christianity”

The event will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2026, in Barcelona, Spain, bringing together specialists, therapists, researchers, and people interested in dialogue between spirituality, traditional medicines, and academic knowledge.

We are sharing a video (with English subtitles) in which Dr. Jacques Mabit invites you to participate in this event, highlighting the importance of recovering a broader understanding of the human being—one that also takes the spiritual dimension into account.

After completing his service in the U.S. Navy, Juan joined Takiwasi's Retreat for Veterans & First Responders in search of healing. In this heartfelt testimonial, he shares how the retreat helped him heal unexpected wounds from his past, reconnect with his roots, and gain a renewed sense of clarity and direction for his life.

“The retreat allowed me to look at my roots that I walked in here with and allowed me to pull those old roots out, so that I can grow newer ones, deeper ones, stronger ones. So, I'm leaving here with a new set of roots and it's exactly what I needed”.

The retreat with master plants can be experienced by participants as a true rebirth process, especially by those who are seeking answers and a deeper sense of meaning in their lives.

In his testimony, David, a former U.S. Marine Raider, highlights that he did not expect to encounter the spiritual dimension that accompanies experiences with ayahuasca and master plants. However, this dimension ultimately became, for him as well as for many other participants, the deepest and most meaningful aspect of the transformative process experienced during the retreat.

In this conversation, Professor David Manuel-Navarrete (School of Sustainability, Arizona State University) and Matteo Politi (Research Manager, Takiwasi Center) explore how the current ecological crisis calls for a profound transformation in the way we understand the relationship between human beings and nature.

Drawing on concepts such as relationality, inclusive transdisciplinarity, and spirituality, they discuss the need to integrate scientific knowledge with Indigenous knowledge and direct experience with master plants. More than a reflection on ecology, this dialogue proposes a paradigm shift: moving from a logic of control and separation toward a culture of reciprocity, in which the Amazon and its ancestral knowledge become a source of learning for addressing the challenges of global sustainability.

In August, we welcomed Dr. Tania Re, a psychotherapist and clinical psychologist and a member of the UNESCO Chair at the University of Genoa (Italy), entitled “Anthropology of Health – Biosphere and Healing Systems”. Dr. Re was accompanied by a group of 15 Italian and Swiss visitors, including psychiatrists and psychotherapists who formally practice psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy in Switzerland.

The purpose of this visit was precisely to bring these professionals closer to the roots of the traditional knowledge and practices associated with the ritual and therapeutic use of psychoactive plants in the Amazonian tradition, while also giving them the opportunity to learn firsthand how, at Takiwasi, this knowledge engages in dialogue with Western psychotherapy, with the aim of contributing to improving the quality of life of people experiencing mental health challenges.

This November we are proposing a Therapeutic Seminar for Women with Addiction Problems, an intensive one-month program that integrates psychotherapeutic support with the ritualized use of medicinal plants from the Peruvian Amazonian tradition.

Throughout this process, participants will engage in deep physical, emotional, and spiritual detoxification in a safe, respectful environment, with close guidance and support from our therapeutic team.
