31 years of Takiwasi

Dear friends,
In this month of celebration of the 31 years of Takiwasi's founding, I wish you a thousand blessings in your personal and work life, thanking each one of you for the contribution.
I am attaching some photos of the main house when it was purchased in 1991 and the construction of the maloca before Takiwasi officially existed, and the fixing by two of the very first patients of the office that is now the administration... You can appreciate how all this has changed. This is the result of the efforts of many people and it is an incentive to have hope, despite everything, and to dare to keep alive the craziest dreams to make them come true one day.
May the Virgin of the Nativity bless us all, protect us and teach us the path to the Light.
Amazonian hug,
Jacques.

Sesgos culturales y experiencias psicodélicas

We share an article by Italian researcher Alberto Dubbini that has recently been published in the academic journal "OBM Integrative and Complementary Medicine", focused on the topic “Cultural Biases and Psychedelic Experiences: Western Scientific Perspectives about Amazonian Mestizo Therapeutic Traditions".

Abstract
This article aims to analyze how Western researchers can be influenced by their epistemic and ethical foundations, which are also expressed through a culturally shared idea of therapy, and how this influence can significantly hinder the understanding of a different cultural reality and its resources in terms of knowledge and practices. While examining a collection of research cases in the field of psychedelic therapy, the present paper focuses on the obstacles created by ethical and epistemic conflicts in the mind of researchers with Western scientific training and their consequent difficulty in exploring the situations induced by psychedelic substances in a context of articulation and integration between their therapeutic know-how and that of a spiritual hundreds-year-old psychedelic tradition like Amazonian mestizo vegetalismo. Such obstacles may offer a chance to increase awareness of the cultural bias and limitations of the scientific gaze and highlight the importance of therapeutic and research contexts in which declared independence, neutrality and effectiveness of human alert thinking as undebatable ethical and epistemic value are under discussion.

Canta la Ayahuasca - Healing Ikaros

Ikaros are essential elements of Traditional Amazonian Medicine and constitute a source of cultural resistance by preserving both linguistic elements and knowledge related to Amazonian world-view and medicinal resources, which go back in time to the original cultures. They are the essential means to transmit wisdom and healing practices. This concept led us to call our center "Takiwasi" that in Quechua means "the house that sings" or "the house of song", to honor this tradition.

On our website we offer for sale the ikaros sung by the healers of Takiwasi. The revenues generated from the sale of these products is entirely destined to support Takiwasi in the treatment and rehabilitation of people with limited economic resources who suffer from drug addiction.

Takiwasi Center Online Courses

We want to invite you to enroll in our online courses:

- Introducción al modelo terapéutico Takiwasi: 11 pre-registered classes taught in Spanish by the therapeutic team of the Takiwasi Center. Topics such as Traditional Amazonian Medicine are addressed, including the presentation of specific techniques such as plant baths and purges, and the application of Western psychological approaches in the treatment of addictions, such as existential psychotherapies and the analysis of trans-generational inheritances.

- Coherencias entre la iniciación cristiana y la iniciación amazónica: taught in Spanish by Dr. Jacques Mabit, course based on 5 pre-registered videos. The experience of the Takiwasi Center shows us that there are numerous and surprising points of coherence and convergence between the Christian faith and Amazonian shamanism (when correctly understood and practiced). This course attempts to highlight the relevance of bringing these two paths of knowledge closer together and articulating them appropriately in favor of opening new paths for the healing of the body, mind and spirit.
