Training in the Takiwasi Therapeutic Model – 2026

We are pleased to present the 5th edition of the Training in the Takiwasi Therapeutic Model, that will be held in Spanish. The growing interest and continuous requests from therapists wishing to learn about our model motivate us to continue promoting these learning spaces within a safe, therapeutic, and effective environment.

The training program proposed for 2026 (September 28 – October 10) combines resources from Traditional Amazonian Medicine and experiential workshops aimed at personal transformation. In addition, it is enriched with theoretical seminars and the sharing of key tools from our Therapeutic Model, offering participants a balanced and deeply nourishing experience on multiple levels.

Outpatient treatment for women with addiction problems

At Takiwasi, we have recently opened the possibility of outpatient treatment for women with addiction problems, thus responding to the numerous requests received in recent years.

In 2023, we took an important first step with a one-month intensive seminar exclusively for women, which achieved very encouraging results. In 2025, we went further by integrating women into a mixed format, participating in medicinal plant sessions and therapeutic workshops alongside the men of our therapeutic community, under a semi-residential modality and with specialized support.

Looking ahead to November 2026, we are preparing a new one-month intensive seminar for women with problematic substance use, aimed at providing them with tools for deep, integral, and sustainable healing, based on therapeutic processes and the traditional use of medicinal plants. It is required that participants speak Spanish or French.

Reconstruction of the Bridge in Santa Cruz: Almost There!

The reconstruction of the pedestrian bridge in the Kichwa-Lamista native community of Santa Cruz is progressing with great enthusiasm. Thanks to the generous support of many people, the community has been able to start the work, and the bridge is now beginning to take shape.

Our dear Edgardo Tuanama, healer at Takiwasi, is leading this project with dedication and hard work. Once completed, the bridge will allow children to reach school safely, farmers to transport their products, and elderly or sick community members to access medical care more easily in case of emergencies.

Only a small amount is missing to reach the goal: Edgardo still needs S/ 3,000 soles (approximately €770) to finish construction and ensure the bridge is fully functional and resistant to heavy rains.

If you wish to join this collective effort and contribute to the well-being of around 15 indigenous families, you can do so via Credit/Debit Card, PayPal, or Bank Transfer. Find all the details and donation options by clicking the button below.

Testimony of a Participant in the Retreat-Diet

When I decided to go to Takiwasi, part of my goal was to “turn the page” on very painful situations in my life.

I had already worked on these issues a lot in therapy, which helped me immensely, but there was still something that kept blocking me. I went to the Center with the intention of being grateful for all the inner work I had done over the years, but also to leave it behind, to “live a new chapter: move toward the future and let go of the past.”

However, the plants had another plan for me: the entire journey was about the past—reviewing, healing, cleansing. Both the ceremony and the retreat were among the most beautiful, loving, and kind experiences I’ve ever had, through which I was able to approach what had happened to me in a different way.

Although I still believe I have many challenges ahead and big issues to resolve in my life (professionally and in relationships), I feel that this journey allowed me to release and heal a lot of pain, to understand and value myself much more. Above all, that pain I carried has become light—it no longer weighs on me.

Testimony of C.A., who took part in a retreat-diet at Takiwasi and created this drawing inspired by his hut in the jungle.

Addictions and Spirituality

In the webinar “Addictions and Spirituality: Between Conventional Therapies and Medicinal Plants,” we will speak in Spanish with Eduard Casas Bertet, social educator and president of the Associated Group for Health Services (GASS Association, Spain), who has extensive experience in addiction treatment. We cordially invite you to join us on Tuesday, November 18, at 11:00 a.m. (Peru time) for our live broadcast on Facebook Live.

The conversation will focus on the differences between conventional approaches and alternative therapies, including the use of Amazonian medicinal plants. We will discuss the essential role of the spiritual dimension in rehabilitation processes, reflecting also on the possibilities and challenges involved in integrating the use of medicinal plants in addiction treatment in Europe. Likewise, we will explore how combining different therapeutic approaches can enrich both understanding and clinical practice in this field.

Sharing the Takiwasi Model in International Forums

Throughout November, the Takiwasi therapeutic model is being presented in various academic spaces at both the national and international levels, allowing us to share our experience and research in the fields of addiction treatment and mental health.

On November 6, Takiwasi’s Communications Director, Fabio Friso, presented the results of research on the effectiveness of the Takiwasi model at the 18th Latin American Conference of Therapeutic Communities held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. On November 7, psychotherapist María Virginia Erazo took part in the 3rd Forum on Ancestral Medicines and Dialogues of Knowledge at the Technological University of Pereira, Colombia, where she gave a presentation on the Takiwasi model and its innovative approach to the treatment of addictions.

Arnaud Montagne, financial advisor at Takiwasi, is participating in the Torchbearer Gala in San Diego (USA), an event organized on November 15 by Veterans Exploring Treatment Solutions (VETS), focused on research and psychedelic-assisted therapies for the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI), where he will present our treatment proposal for veterans and first responders.

On November 21, psychologist Uriel López Legaria will present the Takiwasi model to an audience of physicians, psychiatrists, and neurologists at the 1st Latin American Congress on the Diagnosis and Management of Functional Neurological Disorders in Lima, Peru. Finally, Uriel and our Therapeutic Coordinator, Veronika Kavenská, will participate in the 13th International Congress of Psychotherapy and 6th Congress of Research in Psychology which will take place from November 26 to 28, 2025, at César Vallejo University in Tarapoto. During this event, they will present various topics and workshops related to addiction.

Rethinking Our Relationship with Plants

In the webinar “Amazonian Wisdom and Health,” Matteo Politi and Giorgia Tresca spoke in Spanish with Emanuele Fabiano, an anthropological researcher specialized in the indigenous cultures of the Peruvian rainforest, about issues related to human and environmental health.

In recent years, Amazonian medicinal plants have sparked growing interest worldwide. However, behind today’s enthusiasm for “plant medicine” lies a deeper question: from what perspective do we approach plants? Do we see them as useful resources or as beings with whom we can establish living relationships?

Among Amazonian peoples, plants are not mere biological organisms. They are beings with thought, sensitivity, and will—companions with whom one converses, dreams, and heals. What if healing meant entering into a relationship with them, rather than simply intervening on a body? Could we imagine a medicine of relationships instead of a medicine of substances?

During the webinar, these and other topics were discussed, exploring different perspectives and fostering an enriching dialogue. We invite you to watch the full video.
